St. Augustine's

St. Augustine's is a relatively new joint near the Commercial Drive SkyTrain station.  It's fairly big, and has good ambience.  It's the kind of place where the music isn't so loud that you can't hear your friends.  It also has enough plasma screens to be a great place to catch a game.

The real draw, however, is the beer.  Right off the bat you realize that this place is a beer lover's delight.  There are more than 40 beers on tap!  All of them high quality microbrews.  There isn't a product of an international brewing conglomerate anywhere to be seen.  Not only that, but the brews rotate!  If you find yourself a favourite on this beer menu, drink as much of it as you can, because odds are they'll be pouring something else within a month.  For a beer dork like me this is great.  It's hard to find new, interesting beers on tap.  Augustine's, though, will always have something intriguing that I've never heard of to try.

The food, on the other hand is... ok.  It's not bad by any means, but it's nothing to write home about either.  Fairly standard pub fare.  Nothing jaw dropping by any means.  My advice would be to eat at home, and spend the money you saved on even more of their awesome, awesome beers.

Overall, I really like this place.  It's a great place to spend a few hours shooting the breeze and drinking truly fabulous beers.  Did I mention how good the beers are?  There's also a reasonable selection of non-beer drinks for those who haven't yet discovered the majesty of barley's favourite child.  If you consider yourself a beer lover and live in the Vancouver area.  You need to give this place a try.
